FILM DESCRIPTION:
Dr. Don Shirley is a world-class African-American pianist who’s about to embark on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962. In need of a driver and protection, Shirley recruits Tony Lip, a tough-talking bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx. Despite their differences, the two men soon develop an unexpected bond while confronting racism and danger in an era of segregation.

All of the places he got denied to eat for dinners and lunches and they accept him instantly. Doc really came around full circle here.
Thankfully, I grew up in such a way I never knew how to hate someone based on skin color. I'm From Jackson Mississippi, where being white puts you in the minority. A man I refer to only as my brother, is so black you can't see him at night unless he smiles. His children call me their uncle. All 6 of them. His wife, just assumes I'm a member of the family. Core values are taught, not bred in. If you understand how to love people or hate them for who they are not how they look, you world view changes a lot. I've found in my years on this planet, no matter where you go, racism does exist.. and it seems to be exclusive to the uneducated and poorly cultured. A proper family with both parents in the home who raise their children right removes this hate out right.
Great movie. History lesson
i feel like what this scenes also depicts is Tony's cultural change. After spending so much time with Dr Shirley, he is quiet at the table around his friends/family. I have experienced something similar, where i had a hard time relating to the discussions around the table with old friends and family. Part of him feels relieved when Shirley shows up, so he can find that new culture he is comfortable with, and maybe even bridge both cultures together. Thats my interpretation at least.

Those were Good times living in the Bronx NY. Sure many didn't have money but they had the tight Nit neighborhood !
Man, Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen can absolutely crush any role they're given. Great casting for this film.
