Filson increased the price of their Filson Mackinaw Cruiser by $100 in May of 2021 to nearly $500. This is a legendary coat and I’ve covered it extensively, including how to approximate the age of one if you buy it second hand. However, now that the price is nearly $500 it becomes somewhat less appealing. The Mackinaw Cruiser has a dedicated following for a good reason: the mackinaw wool resists wear, it’s warm, and it looks fantastic. Still, the price tag will have many people looking for alternatives to the Filson Mackinaw Cruiser and that’s what this video is all about.

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I’ve been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it’s best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that’s where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don’t care where it’s made as long as it’s made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better.
What kind of dope pays 400 for a shirt?
My $20 Walmart special flannel jacket has been serving me just fine for years now.
Bro im in southern california , San Diego To be Exact and if it gets under 60 over here we look ridicilous with scarfs and gloved up. Your Content is fire ⚡
Check out Bemidji Woolen mills also.
I have a big bill merino wool jacket, amd its great!
This review seems like unfair Filson bashing. "The Orvis Barn Coat is better" — you are joking right? Everyone whines about not enough made in USA but then whine about sticker shock. Mackinaw Cruiser is one of the few remaining high quality items made in USA sold by Filson. Prices of everything are going up due to the pandemic. I would say buy one now if you like it, they will probably be gone for good in the near future.
I totally blame The Iron Snail for the price increase.
That they didn't even match the pattern really says gouging on their part.
I have a middleweight Woolrich shirtjacket that I've had for about 25 years. I bought it on sale at a small outdoor shop somewhere in Montana. I freakin' love that garment – it's great for outdoors and layering. I have to admit, though, that I'm a sucker for hoods, so I wish it had one. I also have a very elegant Pendleton wool coat from the 1970's that I picked up for a song at a thrift shop a few years ago. Oh, and a light/medium Woolrich wool shirt and a lightweight Pendleton one with leather elbow patches. What can I say? I love wool clothes.
I'm shocked such a jacket could cost so much. For it to cost any more than $100 is a bit jarring to ones senses. It's literally a blanket sewn into a heavy shirt. Not even a very impressive one. They didn't even bother to add a bit more of an overlap to the placquet to keep the wind out. The barnstormer style jacket with the semi-double breasted front closure and shawl collar are so much better. Can't someone make these? Good Wool fabric isn't that expensive. China makes great coating wools. They're very heavy and made partly out of recycled wool, but they're pure wool and have a nice polished felt finish.
As if paying 250 for a shirt isn't "still being an idiot."
Boycott the gouge. Let’s Go Brandon.
Not worth it….
imagine spending 300 on a jacket
edit lol wait i mean 400
The only thing Filson's made that's ever been worth buying are tin pants. Everything else is beyond absurd; it's just straight up insulting.
My only problem with Filson is spelling Mackinac wrong.
I have the Big Bill wool vest. If the coat is made with the same material and with the same level of quality, anyone would be very happy with this coat. I plan to buy one in the fall.
250 for a flannel and it's half off.? now I see why Kurt Cobain committed suicide..
Garbage and bullshit. Pathetic
I'm gay and I love capitalism and the people who consume overpriced things. It's great for society!
I hunted in a double mackinaw filson in rain for 5 hours and it kept me dry.
I’m my experience is Filson quality is in decline.
Is it made in China?
Why pay a totally absurd price for a flipping flannel jacket when you could pay half of absurdity amirite???
I have big bill wool work bib, coveralls. Simply amazing and worth it. Had to get hemmed, but great!
You desperately need a Costco membership. I can get a nice jacket for under $50.
Thanks, Carl. I've decided on the Stormy Kromer (made in USA). Always wanted a Filson, but I am a proletarian and can't afford the yuppie prices.
Why the f*** would you even pay more than $40 for a f**** flannel???
100 bucks more years after peak heritage, peak lumbercore etc.
If you cannot tell the difference $500 one from $250 one, buy $250. I'll stick to the $500 one.
I have a double mackinaw in Camo along with pants , Filson doesn’t make the Camo pattern any more
The type of people who buy $500, or $250 shirts for that matter, likely also spend $100 each time they wax their ass hairs.
$50 would be the max I would pay for a flannel shirt/jacket
The 500 one looks better stop being a cheapskate
If you are paying that much for clothing you are a fool. There's dozens of alternatives, even if you had to buy four 50 dollar coats to last as long, that's still 200 dollars compared to 500. It is utterly dumb to pay that much for that nonsense.
Bro you can buy a nice flannel like that at Tractor Supply for $60. Less if you catch them on markdown after the season
Le laboureur Laine Burel jacket it's also an alternative
This is window-licking stupid.
“People need to buy American product , support our own “!!! “ Buy my $500 boots”!!
Lol, pass.
